It was the famous landscape artist Capability Brown that first embraced the term “serendipity” – discovering the unexpected just around the corner. This is true of the port of Cabopino. As you drive along the N340 (A-7) from Calahonda to Marbella you would have little notion of the beautiful marina hidden behind the pines of Artola. Indeed as you sweep down from the main carriageway you may be forgiven in thinking that the white facade of the neat little apartments hides a hotel complex or even a car park. Those of adventurous spirit will pass through the archway and will be richly rewarded for their endeavour.
I have been making that journey for three years now and never tire of the vista that greets me, either on a morning or at dusk. Often, at the start of my day, I will be found sitting on the terrace at Alberts, sipping coffee and mesmerised by the motor boats swaying gently in the man-made calm of the sea. The port is fringed by other restaurants, but Alberts claims the ideal location to enjoy the entire delight of this charming marina.
I am still surprised by the number of people who have been visiting the Costa del Sol for years, yet have only just stumbled on Puerto de Cabopino – yet there are more surprises awaiting the newest adventurers – yes indeedy….serendipity.
